Midnight Sun

Someone leaked on the internet a partial draft of Stephenie Meyer's Midnight Sun manuscript (which, as you probably know, is Twilight retold from Edward's perspective) and now Stephenie has offered the partial draft (12 chapters, non-contraband this time) on her website. I read the leaked version and I loved it, so I really hope she publishes Midnight Sun in the future (when she's not so angry about the leak).

I agree with her, get it out there so the leak isn't a bad thing for people to look for. I need to read it. I really hope she publishes it after she isn't angry. I was sad when I read that.

I am sad for her. That's her business that someone stole. It's just wrong.

how did they find it? That is really wrong. I am running into more and more things related to copyright that annoy me. Why do people think it is ok to steal something (an idea) and pass it along to friends? Our digital scrapbooking group is running into some problems this way. Stealing is stealing even if the material is digital.

The leaked version looked like a copy of a copy of a copy, scanned, and then posted on the internet. I'm theorizing it was one of the movie people (a lesser fan) who accidentally leaked it, not knowing its value, and a psycho fan who did the dirty work. And it looked like someone went to a lot of trouble to get it on the internet (scanning 176 pages). I'm really surprised that someone who was THAT big of a fan would feel so compelled to do that to her (although, they probably weren't thinking about the author's feelings or they wouldn't have done it).

But she's way angry about it, and who could blame her? I bet she felt so strapped, like she had very few options in rectifying the situation. I myself, hate feeling that way. I think she probably came up with the best solution for her. But I probably wouldn't have been handing out the manuscript in the first place. I'd be too chicken. It was bound to leak. Having a manuscript out there was like putting Christmas presents under the tree at Thanksgiving and expecting your two-year-old not to open them until the 25th.

I feel bad for her too. When I first heard about it I was sure it was fake but as I read it I started to hope it was real because I liked it so much and became attached to the storyline.

I hope she finishes it too. For her own satisfaction and for her loyal fans.

I finsihed it and I too loved it, that is the Stephenie Meyer I know and love. I wished she would have continued. Maybe she still will when she calms down and the anger is lessened. I wouldn't have handed out any manuscript knowing the high demand for this narrative. She shouldn't have known that it would have been leaked!
