Good books

I've always loved to read but don't always have the time for it. Or I choose not to read much because I have a tendency of ignoring other responsibilities so I can finish a good book. I got a Springville library card recently and have been reading a lot again. Gage just woke up so I can't do a long post, I just want to see what everyone is reading now, or lately, and if anyone has any super great recommendations of books they have loved. I'm rereading the Work and the Glory series and am loving them all over again. The stories and history inspire and move me.

I love reading too and with 3 kids my reading time is one of the things I miss the most. I am usually not really into science fiction but Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game" series is really good and so is his "Ender's Shadow" series. I am sure you all have read Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight Series" but it if you haven't you should. Princess Bride, Count of Monte Cristo, Little Women, Jane Eyre, A Tale of Two Cities, Pride and Predjudice, Sense and Sensibility are some of my all time favorites.

Last week I read "Night" by Elie Wiesel for book club. It is non-fiction about his time in concentration camps during the holocaust. Definitely sad, but good. And it is a very quick read. Right now I am reading "Gustavia Browne" by Alene Roberts. It is an LDS fiction and is good so far.

Terra-I'm glad you are on the blog now. When you get a chance, post a quick introduction with a picture if you have one so everyone can "meet" you. You can find the other introductions on the list of labels.

Have you heard of shelfari? You create a virtual bookshelf online and have friends so you can post what you've read and look at what they like too. It's really fun. Here is a link to my shelfari page if you are interested.

Where do I begin? I really enjoyed all of the Laurie R. King series about Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes. Start with the first The Beekeeper's Apprentice, Monstrous Regiment of Women, A letter of Mary, The Moor, O Jerusalem, Justice Hall, The Game and Locked Rooms. I also like Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns, unfortunately she died before she could finish the sequel. I like Shannon Hale's books, especially the Princess Academy. I love some of Sharon Creech's books, especially Walk Two Moons and Bloomability. I love 100 Shades of White by Preethi Nair it is all about India, England, Indian food, Romance, sewing and all sorts of subjects that I love. I like pretty much all of Cynthia Voight's novels especially Dicey's Song and Homecoming and A Solitary Blue. I like all of Elizabeth Aston's books that are Jane Austenesque with characters related to the Darcys. I like Libba Bray's series (but your mom wasn't too jazzed about them), they get better as you read them in order. I like Lorna Landvick and have read all her books, my favorite was Angry Housewives eating Bon Bons. I like Sandra Dallas, but some of her books are way too disturbing. The only one I would recommend is The Persian Pickle Club, the others have really gross stuff in them. I like the Agatha Raisin series. I love the Edge Chronicles by Paul Stewart and Chris Ridell, they kind of remind me of Harry Potter, but they explore more characters and have more depth. I guess I am mostly into YA fiction because it is clean for the most part. I could go on and on and on about what books I like, but should probably give someone else a chance.

Have you ever read Yearning for the Living God by Enzio F Bushe? He is an emeritus 70. It is an excellent book about his life-beginning as a Hitler Youth during the war, his conversion, and faith-filled life. It made me yearn for God...a definite must read.
